Day 1: Arrival in Barcelona

Finally! We are here!! It's 7:35 a.m. in Barcelona. We have just landed and even though we are tired from a long trip we are ready to start our adventure.
I love Barcelona! We came here last year with the whole family but there is so much to see and do that another few days will be just perfect!
We decided not to rent a car in Barcelona. They have an amazing public transportation (Metro-bus and train) system that there is no need to rent a car (in my opinion:)
At the airport we purchase a 48 hours metro pass for about €16 each. Buy it directly from the ticket booth after picking up your luggages. That was a great deal as just a single ticket out of the airport is about €6.
We then decided to go to our hotel to drop off our suitcases and do some sight seeing until our check-in time at 2:00p.m. So we had about 5 hours to spare before being able to rest a bit from our flight.
So what do we do?? We eat!! Oh my gosh the food in Spain is sooo good. We found a corner cafe/bakery near our hotel and we had the pleasure of having our first "chocolate caliente" with a croissant (ok maybe two).
The hot chocolate in Spain is so thick it almost had a pudding consistency (like a chocolate fondue)

After our breakfast we started walking our town but quickly started to feel the fatigue from traveling. We then decided to purchase a Hop-on Hop-off city bus tour ticket. That was the best idea we've had since we arrived because we saw a lot of the city that we wouldn't have time to see on foot.
You can buy your ticket directly at the bus stops for about €30 each.

There are 3 routes that you can choose from. We only did the red and blue route.

After a few hours of sight seeing we were ready to go to our hotel and rest for a bit. We stayed at the Catalonia Barcelona Plaza hotel which was amazing!! It was located on the Placa d'Espana right by a metro hub.

After a few hours of nap we woke up and returned on the bus (they run until 8:30 p.m) to finish the night we walked around Las Ramblas and had a quick dinner at Pans.

Here are a few photos of our day:
